Book Launch of the English Edition of Handbook of Port Machinery at the London Book Fair
On March 14th, 2024, the English edition of Handbook of Port Machinery was launched at the 54th London Book Fair, by Tsinghua University Press (TUP) and Springer Nature at Booth 7B10/7C10. Dr. QIU Xianqing, President of TUP, Mr. ZHUANG Hongquan, Vice-President of TUP, James FINLAY, VP of Applied Sciences books of Springer Nature, and Dr. YEUNG Siu Wai Stephen, Editorial Director of Major Reference Works of Springer Nature attended the event.

QIU Xianqing delivered the opening speech. He pointed out that in the context of the ever-increasing global impact of China’s construction machinery as represented by port machinery, this book has witnessed the exploration, progress and innovative development of China’s port machinery manufacturing industry since the reform and opening-up. Despite many difficulties in publishing a major reference work, the successful publication of the English Handbook of Port Machinery is realized by virtue of the win-win cooperation between Tsinghua University Press and Springer Nature. QIU concluded that Tsinghua University Press is dedicated to promoting scientific and cultural exchanges between China and the West by conveying Chinese wisdom to the world and is determined to continually facilitate the spread of knowledge across borders and boost global collaboration on technology.

ZHUANG Hongquan mentioned that the Handbook of Port Machinery is the first volume of the Handbook of Construction Machinery Series published by Tsinghua University and he made a brief introduction of the series. As comprehensive reference books aiming to support the Belt and Road Initiative, the series was compiled by experts, scholars, designers and manufacturers organized by China Construction Machinery Society. Consisting of 21 volumes, the series was published by TUP and funded by National Publishing Foundation. The whole series, covering almost all the categories of construction machinery, fills the gap in the field of China’s construction machinery. It helps users to purchase, safely and efficiently use construction machinery, contributing to the technological progress of construction machinery and the development of the industry.

James FINLAY pointed out that China has always been the business focus of Springer Nature and they are willing to bring China’s most leading research findings to the world. He mentioned that the Handbook of Port Machinery is an important handbook for scholars and engineers in the machinery industry. It not only reflects the research achievements in advanced manufacturing and intelligent manufacturing, but also will meet the potential needs in ocean engineering area in the coming years.
James FINLAY delivers a speech
YEUNG Siu Wai shared his experience of publishing major reference works. He pointed out that Springer Nature is renowned for providing the world with the most comprehensive major reference books. Up to now, they have successfully published over 1200 major reference books. The publication of the Handbook of Port Machinery not only showcases the high-quality content in this book, but also highlights the significant role of Tsinghua University Press in disseminating top-level academic knowledge globally.
