President QIU Xianqing Attended the First Conference on Graduate Course and Textbook Construction

On May 11-12, the First Conference on Graduate Course and Textbook Construction was successfully held in Beijing. The conference, organized by Tsinghua University Press(TUP), was hosted by the Association of Chinese Graduate Education (ACGE), with academic support from the National Graduate Education Steering Committee for Professional Engineering Degrees, the National Graduate Education Steering Committee for Professional International Business Degrees, the National Graduate Education Steering Committee for Professional Tourism Management Degrees, and the Computer Education Research Association of Chinese Universities (CERACU). The theme of the conference was "Graduate courses and textbooks should be innovative". More than 560 leaders, experts, and teachers from more than 270 organizations attended the conference.

YANG Fan, the Deputy Secretary General of ACGE and the Deputy Dean of the Graduate School of Tsinghua University, presided over the opening ceremony. Professor LIANG Qionglin, the Deputy Secretary General of ACGE and the Dean of the Graduate School of Tsinghua University, and QIU Xianqing, the President of TUP, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. Qiu emphasized that TUP attached great importance to its collaboration with the academic societiesprofessional associations, education steering committees, and universities. TUP has published a series of seminal research reports and first-rate textbooks, which have exerted a far-reaching and profound influence on institutions of higher learning nationwide. Looking ahead, he aspired for TUP to assume an even more prominent role in shaping postgraduate curricula and advancing textbook development.

LIU Shuai, the Deputy Chief of the Training Quality Division within the Department of Degree Management and Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Education, and more than 60 leaders, experts, and scholars delivered keynote speeches and special reports. LIU Zhibin, Head of the Management, Humanities and Social Sciences and the Foreign Languages editorial branches, presided over the third sub-forum and made a summary speech at its closing ceremony.

This conference promoted theoretical thinking and practical exchanges on development of postgraduate coursework and textbooks. It contributed to improve the quality of postgraduate courses and textbooks, while bolstering the capability for nurturing high-caliber talents through autonomous education programs. By converging a consortium of experts, scholars, and supportive entities engaged in postgraduate education resources, the event effectively mobilized a reservoir of expertise, thereby laying the groundwork for sustained enhancement in the quality of graduate education materials and ultimately, the learning experience.
