Joint Meetings of the Symposium on Developing New Quality Productive Forces for STEM Journals and the 2024 SciOpen Innovation Conference Held

On June 30th, 2024, the joint meetings of the Symposium on Developing New Quality Productive Forces for STEM Journals and the 2024 SciOpen Innovation Conference were held in the Reception Hall of the Main Building of Tsinghua University. Organized by Tsinghua University Press (TUP), the conference aimed at sharing the latest developments and exchanging ideas on cultivating new quality productive forces for STEM journals, and jointly exploring the pattern and path of high-quality development of STEM journals. Attended the conference were representatives from China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and TUP, and over 150 experts and scholars from government agencies, scientific research institutions, academies and associations, universities, libraries, journal publishers and sci-tech enterprises.

The opening ceremony was hosted by SHI Lei, Deputy General Editor and Director of Journal Center, TUP. ZONG Junfeng, Chairman of TUP, delivered an opening speech. ZONG Junfeng emphasized the pivotal position of STEM journals within the national framework of innovation. Digital publishing platforms, as conduits for disseminating these journals, serve as the nucleus for fostering new productive forces of STEM journals. Simultaneously, they represent a constraining factor inhibiting the innovative progress and growth of China’s STEM journal publishing industry. TUP has independently developed SciOpen, an international digital publishing platform for STEM journals, with the support of the national program for Excellent STEM Journals and Tsinghua University. In June 2022, SciOpen was officially launched. Up to now, SciOpen hosts 86 English-language STEM journals, with an archive exceeding 25,000 articles, and garners approximately 38,000 daily visits from a global readership spanning over 180 countries and regions. After two years of international operation replete with iterative enhancements, the platform has become increasingly sophisticated, professional, smart and modern. It has become instrumental in developing clusters of international STEM journals in China, while broadening the horizons of open science services. Chairman ZONG looks forward to more extensive cooperation with all stakeholders in the future to improve the innovation and development of STEM journal clusters and hastening the realization of a world-class STEM journal ecosystem.
